What Are Motor Control Systems?
Motor control centers are mainly used to control some or all of your electric motors from a central location. It built out of multiple enclosed sections with a common power bus and with each section mixed with a combination starter, which in turn consists of motor starter, circuit breaker or fuses, circuit breaker, and power disconnect. A motor control center can also include push buttons, variable-frequency drives, indicator lights, programmable logic controllers, and metering equipment.
Applications of Motor Control Systems
Motor control centers are typically found in industrial facilities or large commercial and have been used since 1950 by the automobile manufacturing industry. Nowadays they are used in many commercial and industrial applications. Where corrosive processes or very dusty are being used, the motor control center maybe installed in a separate air-conditioned room, but often they are on the factory floor neighboring to the machinery they control.
They form of one or more metal cabinet sections with power bus and provision for plug-in mounting of separate motor controllers. Very large controllers perhaps bolted in place but smaller controllers can be unplugged from the cabinet for testing or maintenance. Every motor controller have a contactor or a solid-state motor controller; overload relays to protect the motor, a circuit breaker or fuses to provide short-circuit protection, and a disconnecting switch to isolate the motor circuit. Three-phase power enters into each controller by separable connectors. The motor is wired to the terminals in the controller. Motor control centers provide wire ways for the field control and the power cables.
